Esmeray (es-mear-ri) was an Afro-Turkish singer and actress. I discovered her several weeks ago online. When I posted a video of her on my Facebook page, a couple of my Turkish friends got very excited and were apparently quite happy about my discovery.Esmeray was born in Istanbul. She died of cancer in 2002. Below is a video of one of her songs. Another of her songs can be see here:
My Turkish is still limited, but I enjoy the beautifully haunting sound of both songs.
I would love to learn more about Esmeray. If anyone could give me more detailed information about her and other famous Afro-Turks, I would love it.
